I'm just about ready to commit to a new DSLR and have a budget of around £1k..a little extra might get past my "financial controller"!

Pretty much decided that the Canon 30D with a suitable lens would suit. Nikon D200 is also in the running.
Handled both and I think I could live with either.

I've just discovered a private seller with a low use, mint Canon 30D offering the camera for £580 - a useful £100 saving over the best price I can find for a new UK supplied unit.

He also has for sale a Canon 24-105 L IS lens on offer for £580 - mint, boxed and with a Hoya Pro-! filter...the lens is actually more costly than I could pick up for new! Not certain if the filter is significant in the cost.

I'm sorely tempted but feel the prices are perhaps a little ambitious?
Any guidelines on what good condition equipment could expect to achieve in a private sale as a proportion of its current value?
I wouldn't mind making an offer.

The lens - seems to review well, any thoughts please?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Can't help with prices as I'm with the 'other camp'! But my first thoughts was....

Is the kit still under warranty at all? If it was me I would be considering that it's a lot of money to lose if anything happened to either bit of kit and they were not under warranty of some kind.

Have a look at what mint secondhand versions of each are going for on ebay - it's a good indication of what each is worth. Minus a bit off for saving the inconvenience of an ebay listing and shipping etc, and what's left is a fair price.
