Driving home alast night I followed a traffic car for a good 3 miles.
In front of said traffic car was a Nissan Terano with it's fog light on.
Now, why did hte traffic car not pull this guy over and tell them about thier fog light?
The traffic car appeared to be in no hurry to get anywhere so what could be the reason for not having a word? It seems daft that the traffic police (who's job I though was to police the roads?) would not even stop this person to tell them their fog light was on.

No money to be made? The people that have no brains are not the dangerous ones apparently.
On balance though...had they pulled the driver they could then have faced the common abuse of "haven't you got anything better to do with your time blah blah blah"
I guess damned if they do damned if they don't so were possibly waiting for the driver to do something else wrong and then pull them for both!!

Police authorities do not get money from traffic tickets, the local authority does (at the moment)so there is no gain. But as it happens the offence is worthy of a 30 pound fine. As for not stopping the driver - not everyone gets pulled for every offence, some would deem this an extrememly minor offence (unless they happen to be a blinded motorcyclist!)
I don't think it's worth the paperwork or time and effort to stop every motorist with fog lamps on.
You could spend all day every day just stopping people with foglights on.
If the driver had foglights on and was wandering over white lines, then it would be worth a stop.
I think I want better value for my council tax.
Much bigger fish to fry.

Fully understand it's not worth the agro of ticketing but a quick flash of the lights and a word in their shell like may have prevented them from leaving it on in the future.
That was how policing used to work I thought.

Still does, sometimes. An unmarked plodmobile let me know he was keeping an eye on me the other day. I was "making progress" on one one of those three-lane urban main roads. A sixth sense told me to behave and lo-and-behold on open stretch he drew level and then turned on the blues and twos.
I immediately indicated to pull over and he turned off the B&Ts and continued on his way.
Notice was duly taken. Job done. Paperwork none.
This
ry needs signs that say "keep left where possible", and "do not use fog lights unless when foggy" or, "please check your lights are working properly".
The moment you see one of those 30mph LCDs everyone slams on the brakes - like anything, we all need reminders on how we should be driving
