Did the outside last week on my Chim, looking to do the leather bits on the inside as it is really grubby. Anyone had any good experiences of a particular product.

Cheers

You can use mild soap flakes, not a detergent, and a damp cloth, then wipe with clean damp cloth. Don't over-wet it. You shouldn't really need anything else, but if you feel the need, Gliptone do a Liquid Leather product and other leather stuff which is good- and will make it smell like new leather again, and the company who tanned your leather, Andrew Muirheads in Scotland, do some wet-wipes specially for their leather- www.muirhead.co.uk
Happy cleaning!

This stuff is probably the best I have used:

Just don't use the on-line order form as it never seems to work, call them instead.

I've been very happy with Auto Glym Leather Cleaner and Leather Care Cream - not as expensive as some of the others, but does a good job IMHO. Or if you're feeling really stingy, leave it out in the rain with the roof off - cleans the carpets at the same time!

Try Mer Leather Cleaner (www.merproducts.com) - use their stuff on a regular basis, and it's good.

I have some slight scuffs on my leather eg stearing wheel and a few nicks where something sharp has been pulled across. So the top, shiny leather finish has been removed and you can see the buff leather underneath. All the areas are small say no bigger that 5mm across. Anyone know how to sort these? I heard you can recover the top finished layer of the leather.

You can spend a fortune on fancy products or you can try Lux soap flakes and a moderately stiff brush. It was recommended to me and worked really well on my Griff.thumbup

Gliptone's Liquid Leather Conditioner (GT1108) is pretty good once you've got the leather clean. www.gliptone.com

Tim, Best thing to use, and I should know because I cleaned your seats often enough, is imperial leather soap, a soft nail brush and a soft tooth brush. Wipe over afterwards with a damp cloth a couple of times. Finish off with a good leather conditioner. You will be amazed at the result.

Best stuff ever, makes the leather look like new, feel softer and makes the car smell of leather for months. Great on leather sofas too. Only thing is to put on gloves or your hands will smell of leather for weeks too yuck

If you've got light-coloured leather what has been recommended will just not get ingrained dirt out. The softly-softly approach is overplayed. Cow's skin survives all sort of abuse for years. Don't be afraid to try cream kitchen cleaner scrubbed hard with a nail brush. Wash off completely-plenty of water's fine- but you must then apply plenty of leather conditioner.

Chaps - bizzare as it seems, I would strongly recommend equine tack care products and post cleaning you should use a hide feed for those seats slightly more worn than others as it will soften the leather and protect it against cracking if regularly used. Take care not to discolour the leather or use excess water as this will adversely affect the leather finish.yes

Woolies do an excellent leather renovation kit, approx £30 I think. It consists of a water based cleaner,a coloured dye and sealing paste. It will get the leather as good as new,I've used 3 of them now on different cars.If the colour you need is a popular one like black or doeskin they will have it on the shelf, otherwise you need to send them a colour sample,I sent them a small snip of leather from under the centre console.Being water based it can be removed if need be.Website at www.woolies-trim.co.uk tel.01778347347

I bought Neats Foot Saddle soap from ebay a year or so ago and used it on my Chimaera's Magnolia leather seats etc - good stuff.
Sadly I dont have the Chim anymore, but the Saddle soap works just as good on my light grey seats in the Merc SL.
If the stuff is used on saddles, then it's got to be good for the leather.
Also for stubborn stains try nail varnish remover eek but a little at a time, and then treat with leather feed etc. works a treat!
