Hi
does anyone know why the 997 RS doesn't have a carbon bonnet? cost? also Porsche has quickly duped the sticker for a metal badge - I can see the point about the metal badge but I'm surprised they've dumped the carbon bonnet

I think it's due to the new 57mph EU crash regulations.

Because for all the cars they're going to make, there isn't a prospective customer that's going to be put off by the fact that the car doesn't have a carbon bonnet. So why bother? Cost:Benefit just doesn't make it worth the effort. The RS was different, in that the 996 had already gone through two iterations of GT3, the 996 was in its final days, so someone decided that it was probably in order to pull out the stops a little bit and commission some carbon and a special badge.
In a few years, I'd expect the same thing to happen with the 997, and there'll be a 'Hurray' model as the 997 winds down that will probably have some carbon and so on.
Edit - Then again, it could be the new EU crash regulations as mentioned above. Personally, on this score, I think the last thing we want to be encouraging is comfy bonnets, or we'll never get these dozy effers off the roads. Put big, shiny silver spikes on the front of cars, and you can be sure pedestrians will watch what they're at. (I know someone run down / drunk drivers / this post may appear smaller in your mirror than it actually is Blahblahyaddayadda etc etc etc caveats apply)

They need to leave the ability for them to bring out a revised model (if they need to) later in the model's life. If they do too good a job the first time round their lives become difficult later on.
997 RSL anyone: carbon fibre bonnet, boot/spoiler and mirrors with stickers replacing badges?

To me the 997 is more in keeping with the true RS spirit with it's aluminium luggage lid and doors.
and sat nav, traction control, adaptive damping & etc?

At least you boys will be happy it has carpets and leccy window thingys
That is a great RS feature JC,,,,nobody can work out how to open the door after their first trip out in one
Strange, there I am preferring the older cars for feel and I genuinely like the prospect of the 997Gt3....
Now the new guy is out and getting rave reviews, comparisons are being made for the 996GT3Rs and the 964RS.....it really cracks me up.......this forum can be such fun at times

Yeah but they came off the turbo and the standard 997 GT3 has them too! I think its a shame they didn't go with the carbon on the RS. Now if they made the rest of the shell out of ally, that would be progress. Be lovely to see however much it is knocked off the weight of the whole 911 range. However, a bit worrying in terms of repairs.
