smg problem ?

i have noticed that sometimes the gear indicator on my e46 m3 smg flashes.it doesnt do it all of the time and i am wondering if this is a fault or is this normal.i have looked in the manual but it doesnt say anthing . it flashes whether it is in S or in A. i have only had the car a fortnight, and each time it has done it it has been freezing cold outside, is this just warning me about the ice or is it the start of an expensive smg ownership.
any advice welcome.

I've got an e36 M3 evo with the SMG1 box. The gear indicator flashes during gearchanges. Before the gearbox oil has warmed up, the gearchanges are particularly tardy, especially when it's very cold outside. I've always presumed that this is because of the gearbox oil being particularly "gloopy" when it's cold. Once it's been driven for a couple of miles, the gearchanges become much quicker. I'd suggest that yours is doing the same, and the flashing indicator is normal when the gearbox is between ratios.
