SPEC Clutch - any experiences?

Mate in USA who runs aa Audi/Porcshe tuning company recommends these people for uprated clutches:

They have our clutch kit (1987-89 911 3.2i) in 5 different stages dependant upon torque and usage. The ggod thing is that their cover is OE (then the clamping forve is modified) and therefore will accept our ring gear. The friction plates are sprung rather than rubber doughnut.

Anyone used them?

Ordered one:

Porsche 911 3.2i stage 2+ clutch kit £522 delivered.

A 1987 3.2i makes around 231bhp and 210ftlbs. The SPEC clutch will handle 530ftlbs!!

That should do.

I'm told the the dims are the same as OE - we shall see.

Do you drag and track? Are the dims OK? i.e. does the ring gear fit good and the friction plate engage well on the gear box spline? Spring plate OK over rubber doughnut?

Sorry, but I purchased my GTR from Allen Holz. He listed the spec clutch in the specs of my car, and actually I have it out currently as I am rebuilding my engine and transaxle. As far as I know, there are no fitment issues.

As alluded to earlier, the stage 2+ SPEC clutch arrived and looks cool.........





I was just really surprised at the lack of material on the flywheel side, but my man at www.axismotorsport.com assured me that this is the way with these performance clutches. And the ring gear fits on nicely too.

I'm not sure how others put together the release bearing parts. I got my friendly Porsche dealer to press them together after I bent my original spring washer and had to buy a replacement from them (the original did not come from them...). It is not the work of a moment and a couple of screw drivers.

A call to Spec Clutches got some good 'ole Amaerican Customer service (which confirmed the Factories fitting method). The guy waited on the phone whilst I balanced the inverted clutch release bearing on a piece of wood whilst standing on the friction surface. This gave ample deflection in the clutch fingers and sprung washer to open the grove in the bearing right up. Not a screw driver in sight (well, one, but I couldn't reach it!!)

Clutch now installed, with new spindle bearing and spacer in place.
