rattly bonnet but different...

The bonnet on my cerb is rattling quite a bit at idle. However, investigation reveals it isn't actually the bonnet but the battery cover.
One side sits down nicely against the windscreen but the other has a gap and rattles against both the windscreen and the underside of the bonnet. It's not a matter of tensioning, because if I push the bonnet down harder in the corner or the middle it makes no difference.
If I was going to point the finger at anything, I'd say the battery cover was the wrong shape! I suppose the first step would be to undo it and slide it around a bit to see if I can get it to fit better, but I can't find the correctly-sized allen key right now

Does the battery cover have both the tabs at the back, sounds like if they're both there one is latched home but the other is sitting on to pof the scuttle panel rather than under it. Whip it off and take a peek should be something easily fixable I'd have thought (famous last words)

Thats whats wrong then 
There are 2 small Tabs on the battery cover, they fit underneath the bottom edge of the windscreen cover, You should be able to see where they used to be, and work out how to replace them,, I feel a quick trip to B&Q for some araldite and a rumage around the tool box for some bits of metal is in order.
There are 2 small Tabs on the battery cover, they fit underneath the bottom edge of the windscreen cover, You should be able to see where they used to be, and work out how to replace them,, I feel a quick trip to B&Q for some araldite and a rumage around the tool box for some bits of metal is in order.At the back of the cover, the bit which buts up against the bottom of the screen, there should be some "tabs" underneath it, which form a tongue-and-groove joint against the panel below the bottom of the screen.
So: the fixing points for the cover are, two bolts, one at either side on the pointy-bits, and the tongue-and-groove joint against the small bit of pannel at the bottom of the screen. Also, the bonnet rests on two "nodules", in the centre.
