Hi

I'm about to have my 1992 Mica Blue Griffith 4.3 resprayed. I'm getting the complete shell sprayed so I can make slight changes to the colour if I want. I don't want a major colour change but I would be interested in either Starmist or Starfire Mica Blue. Has anyone got the codes for these?

Can anyone explain the difference in Starfire Mica Blue, Starmist Mica Blue and just Mica Blue metallic? And which do you think looks the best?

I'm not sure but I suspect from snippets of info I've picked up that Mica Blue metallic is just an early '90s Toyota colour and that the others are TVR adaptations, i.e. Starfire has pearl added and Starmist has smaller metal flakes added - is this correct?

I tried to get Gerbil to fully explain without success - can anybody else help - or if you're out there Gerbil can you explain please?

Thanks in advance.

Assie John is having a similar issue at the moment preparing to repaint my old Griffith. the Starmist paint (which i'm quite sure mine was) has a much more significant 'metallic' effect and was a TVR specific paint, the mica blue was Toyota based from what Girbil recalls. He's responded in the General TVR forum to John's thread, may be worth looking on that one.

Starmist blue is lovely, and looks stunning in the sun.

If you're a TVRCC member then maybe this guy can help: TVRCC forum.

If you're contemplating the whole shebang, you could opt for green - you'll gain 10-20 BHP and it'll be much faster.

Thanks 97octane

Anyone got the code for Starfire Mica Blue? Do the differences in appearance between the Mica Blues show up in photographs?

Lordgrover I am a TVRCC member, who are you referring to? Hmm it would need to be at least 100bhp for me to change from blue to green I'm afraid.

Hi Roberto, my body code is the same as 97octanes but as far as I can find out this is a pearl not metallic. It is supposed to be starmist blue but I am not quite 100% convinced, I saw a Griff at the B.N.G. which the owner said was starmist blue but it was more metallic than pearl. Anyone have a starfire mica blue? cheers, John.

Maybe between the two of us we can get to the bottom of this Starmist/Starfire thing - sounds like the non-pearl one is the one I'm after - always thought that was the Starmist Mica Blue but I'm not sure anymore.

Someone must have Starmist or Starfire Mica Blue TVRs. Any Paint Code information, etc. would be appreciated.

How would you describe Starmist Mica Blue - would you recommend it?

Has anyone got Starfire Mica Blue - if so what's the Paint Code and how would you describe it?

My Griff is Starfire Mica Blue - I can get you the code at the weekend - I have it on a tin of paint which was used to re-spray the front end and was an exact match, but it's down at the garage where I keep the car, not at home. I'll post it for you at the weekend.

Although Starfire looks great in the sun (the metallic really shines), IMHO it ONLY looks great in the sun. On dull days, it's often mistaken for a black car - obviously very dark. I'm thinking of changing the colour next year to something a bit less subtle - for me, Tivs are nothing if not brash, and deserve a brash colour! Might paint it world rally blue to match my Subaru, or perhaps Ford RS blue....

That would be good if you could. How would you compare Starfire to Starmist - is there much difference?

Starmist blue is a deep blue with flecks of purple in it. In dull light it looks just plain blue but sunlight brings out the purple hue. In some lights it even has a tinge of green. It is more subtle than pearlescant, and I think was just a predecessor to the pearlescant paints, it is however definitely not metallic.
