Radiator clear out
Discussion
Just gave the car a good wash myself for the first time this year - in this crap weather I just normally let our Eastern Eurpoean cousins keep it reasonable.
Anyway, after cleaning from top to bottom, I spotted some debris in the radiator intakes, so I applied a hose through the vents in an effort to see what came out when I scooped out the results.
I was horrified
Ten or elevn BIG leaves, three plastic lolly wrappers (one german one so christ knows how long that's been in there!!) and assorted twigs and sticks.
Amazing!!
Anyway, if you get the chance give the area a good clear out. Shouldn't imagine that all that stuff would do the radiators much good. Car also seems to run a touch cooler too just on the 80 mark - although I may be wrong.

A little harsh, slippy.
If it has corroded from the outside due to crud, then it won't be covered, becuase you're supposed to maintain your car.
If it is leaking due to internal damage or cracks, it will be replaced foc.

I hadn't thought of it like that. But yes.
If you're teriffically anal you could even take off the front bumper and you'll notice there are actually two radiators sandwiched together - the front being the air con radiator, if you separate them you'd be stunned at the amount of debris that gets between them - my car was running a wee tad hotter than normal and this solved it.
I have just had a look at the central radiator on my 996TT and there was loads of mulch in the corners. Just used a hose to flush some of it out but little bits of grit and things still remain. Poking your hands through the grills is also quite difficult. Is there really no easier way to give them a really good clean?
Also, I can see that the side intakes have a lot of leaves right in the bottom of them, right towards to corner of the bumper near the wheelarch liner. Any easy way to get in there?

Dunno but it's a p. o. p. on a 996. I clean between the rads at least once a year. Mesh stops the big bits but dust and grit still clog things up a fair bit.

I find using a hoover in the radiator grilles are the only way i can
get all the leaves out of there.
Its worth doing every now and then otherwise all those wet leaves can corrode
the rads

Do you have a hoover attachment that is small enough to get between the slats of the grills though?
Shove a piece of garden hose in the hoover nozzle and seal the air gap between the nozzle and the garden hose with gaffer tape - works a treat. Better if you have a spare hoover nozzle and then SWMBO will not bitch about the sticky stuff left after you pull your hose out.............oops, that sounds dirty!
