Hi and good evening .................

I've been trying like crazy to fix my neighbours PC and after installing the XP updates, it just reboots after loading the XP screen, it will do this ad infinitum.

Now, I tried to do them one by one, not easy when there's 66 of them excluding software.....and it gets to one of them, and the PC reboots ok, but Kaspersky and many other services take an age to load, then when I try and use the thompson USB modem, it all goes wrong and reboots with a generic services 32 error and this is linked in the error message to svchost..

now I'm completely lost,

I've tries scan disk, System file checker and generally buggered about, but I'm lost on this, it's only taken 10 of my hours to get this running so far.......now I need some assistance pleas,.

TIA

Kevin

Theres a fix it's a Batch file and will reregister the update dll's rename the temp updates folder and recreate it.

this has worked on around 30 odd machines so far including windows 2003 servers!

It's either caused by IE7 or it's the IE7 security fix and malware removal as them 2 updates are always the ones that are stuck

Hi Liam,

Sorry mate that didn't work, though I have most of the updates done now, one by one seems to be the only way I can do this, then making a few Ghost backups as I go.

thanks anyways.

Hold down F5 during boot and try the last known good configuration .... Might be worth a shot ... if that works then set a restore point ( last known working ) then reboot

Hi Arfur,

Tried all that, when it goes pearshaped, it really goes, it will just reboot ad infinitum, nothing will stop it, no safe mode, or any of the other configurations, I have it narrowed down to three update culprits so far, and have all the other updates barring 6 installed, it's a long haul but I'm nearly there.
