Hi all,

Just a quick question- does anybody know any reliable free webhosting websites, where there is no banner/advertisements on the webpage? I've found a few, but they all have eithere very small upload limits or banners, plus I've never hosted a site before, so don't know if these free sites are reliable.

Any help appreciated

cheers,

ben

Haven't you any webpace with your ISP? This would be free with no banners uually. In my experience, anyone offering free webspace puts some kind of advertising banners on - that' the trade off.

You will find most ISP's throw some basic webspace in as a sweetner, usually anything from 10mb - 100mb. It is however just webspace, it won't have PHP, MySQL, ASP/OBDC, SSL or SSI type stuff available, it's just basic 'hi there' static HTML's.

Anyone offering masses of space and features for zero cost is either ragging their rack space blind to drum up customers for some reason (spam?) OR it'll have masses of banner adverts.

If you want features, ease of use and support then I'm affraid it's showing someone the money. Personally, I've a machine in a friends racks but for those who weren't co-workers with a mini-ISP Jamie's lot seem pretty good; no experience of using them but seeing as nobody's complained about the service that's pretty good.

indeed, 66 PH'rs have even felt happy enough to put their name to recommending us (check profile!)

Whilst free lunches do sometimes exist in this world, they are rare and sporadic! If you want quality now, then is the equivalent of £2.75 a month too much to ask?

I use toi give away free unlimited space with no ads back in the day but becomes a lot of hastle, as soon as your down you have poeple on your back and beleivce it or not you dont get the respect you deserve to say your paying for electric and the bandwidth and everything theres alot of people that still complain at the littlest thing. I use to host IRCd's mysql and ful;l PHP GD totaly open for everyone but then when it came to HDD dieing i gave up.

I'm thinking of opening it back up in the future with a cpanel like system so everything is automated

To be honest, this is one of the reasons I don't offer to give people access to my machine. I couldn't really charge them for it and when something goes wrong they'd expect paid-for quality support for bugger all money.

I just found www.esnips.com who have a 1gb limit and a single file upload limit of 500mb which is pretty good - no idea how reliable they are though having only signed up on Saturday.

Looks more like a file sharing site rather than a web hosting site to me. confused
