Have a couple of questions and any input would be much appreciated.

I'll be selling my 2000 XJR in the summer, first question is what sort of value has it got? I'm the 3rd owner, it's in pacific blue with ivory leather and has the classic walnut trim. It will have done around 100000 miles by then, it had a new dashboard pack in December 2004 having done 51000 miles so the mileage was zeroed but I have the documentation to validate the mileage, I have all the correct documentation including full service history and invoices, it has Jaguar service up to 60000, the last 3 services have been done by an independant. I had new timing chains and adjusters fitted last June and a new supercharger belt and adjusters fitted in December 2006 all fitted by a Jaguar main dealer, all the extra kit works, including the heated front screen and seats, and the satnav etc. I have just had two new front tyres and the back ones will be replaced around April time.

Second question is regarding an X350 to replace it I do approx 20000 miles a year so my brain and Gordon Brown are saying get a diesel and, having driven one for a week they are a great car, I was very impressed, but my heart still says get an XJR so I'm pretty certain I'll have another XJ but are there any pitfalls regarding the x350 I should look out for as I decide which way to go?

Thanks for any advice and help much apreciated

Last months Jaguar world monthly had an x350 buyers guide. I'll have another read and let you know salient points. Much talk in Jag circles regarding how good the 2.7 diesel model is (also won best executive car last year) and there is now an 'autotune' upgrade that give similar performance to the XJR yes
Have also read quite a few reviews from people who were 'anti' diesel but after trying the new XJ diesel are now converts.

As for price of your current XJR, i'm afraid to say they are constantly dropping (i'm watching carefully till they reach MY affordability bracket ) best i can say is trawl the classifieds nearer the time and gauge what they are going for. Hope this is some help, Davy.

I had the XJ Diesel for a week whilst my Supercharger belts and adjusters were changed (a week I know but wrong parts were ordered etc etc well worth the £120 an hour labour not) anyway I digress the diesel was superb, quiet, comfy and no slouch either, in fact I took a friend out who thought at first it was a new XJR, but now you've really got me thinking, a diesel that can be made to go like the XJR

Thanks for your advice Davy

I've had an S-Type 2.7DSE for nearly a month & 4 tanks of fuel. Highly impressed goes well both as a waft mobile & in sport mode to make progress!
It doesn't like short journeys mainly because like all CR diesels it takes an age to warm up. On a run it seems to be giving 37+MPG & it's taxation group F not G like most of the Jag range. This wouldn't change if one was to chip it which seems to take it from 207BHP to 270ish, which if I needed the extra performance is the route I'd take.

i would imagine it to be pretty laggy with 270bhp? i reckon the 204ps version goes well enough as it is...

I went from a 1999 XJR to an X350 XJR just over two years ago.
The X350 is a fantastic car.
Although I've got the XJR I suspect the diesel is the "better" all rounder - I've not tried a diesel XJ but I did try an S-Type with the same engine and was very impressed. Lots of low down grunt, but let's not get carried away - it's way short of the XJR's outright acceleration.

Have a read of last week's Autocar which has a long-term report of a diesel XJ - it's a very good report - they loved it.

Thanks for that advice I'll try and get hold of a copy of Autocars report. I know the diesel is probably the right choice given the miles I travel etc but I also know I'll miss the out and out blast I still get from the XJR's performance
