Look for a known car with lots of bills.
Look for basic upgarde stuff like nitrons, gaz, protech etc shocks.
So long as miles are reasonable then buy on condition and provenance.
The main things to worry about are:-
Chassis rust - look under the car at outriggers, look around the exhaust manifolds under the hood at the chassis there etc etc...
Engine - ensure that it quietens down after 5 miles or so. Ensure oil pressure is good but also that it moves properly eg start at approx 70 cold, then move to 30 - 40 at hot idle but back towards 70 when hot under load.
Everythign works eg air con, windows, alarm etc...
Make sure the owner tells you about their warm up approach. No symathy or knowledge then walk.
PErsonally I woudnt buy from a dealer that doesnt normally deal in TVRs. Most of the best cars I have seen have been Pistonheaders cars. So I would always head for private deals.
