I had an electrical failure in my 2001 Boxter. The dash went out on me. It included the fuel gauge, temp, both speedos and the the tac. The lights still worked as well as the turn signals. The event occured as I was merging onto the freeway. I heard a faint snap or pop and then nothing. I drove it home with no troubles and now the battery has gone dead. Anyone else ever experienced the same problem? If so can you point me in the right direction for a fix?

Checked your fuses? Might explain the "snap/pop" and then electrical items not working...

I did check all the fuses and they were good. I was thinking maybe a ground strap but that might not explain the battery now being dead

Thanks Mike!
I dont remember if I originally mentioned that my battery also drained down to about 3 volts. I also checked my main belt and it was ok. I also checked my alternator for charging ability and it checked out ok to. I pulled my instrument cluster and checked the grounding posts on the other side and it too appears ok. I am stumped so far

Will that not go down with the switch by your feet?

Same as the C4s spoiler up too..suspect that is because the can signal is missing from the instrument cluster and it puts it up as it does not know how fast vehicle is traveling....

Will update on thursday when ive lookat at the C4s.

Hi Mike! I got a blogger who said he had the same problem and he suggested that I put in a new ignition switch. He claimed it fixed his problem and told me that they can be the root of strange elctrical trouble. I also went to an archive site and ran a search on the problem and found an old blog with the same symptoms and same solution. I wanted to get your take on this idea.

Hi Mike I was wondering if you were able to diagnos that C4S? I tried everything, including replacing the igintion switch and have had no success thus far.
