I know TVR figures out a bit optimistic and every car very different , but anybody noticed much difference in these . I have read the Bible and HP figures e.t.c. So what is the main difference . Say on a early 97'5.0 HC serp , to later 5.0?.

Hi

Yes no difference apart from the leters H & C. Apparently TVR had an ongoing supply contract with Sesame Street but sometimes they fell behind with the payments so certain letters were in short supply.

I was told a while ago that there was not a 5.0L and a 5.0L HC but they were all HC engines.

Not sure if this is correct.

I thought that all 5.0s were the same, but for the badge.

I personally beleive you hit the nail on the head here.I drove quite a few 500's in looking for my RV8 cars, and always found the HC seemed to have just that whisker more zip going up through the gears.I reckon it's in the ecu chip/timing set up,Dom at TVR Power would know for sure,i bet.

Yep I would agree with this, have had four 500's in Chims and Griffs, HC's have more of a step up as the they come on cam, I always asumed they had a higher lift cam shaft, one of the HC's had had a new cam fitted and while it was better manered in traffic it never felt as quick as the others. Going from my first Griff 500 SE to a Tuscan S felt like a big step up, then going from the Tuscan to a 4.5 Cerb felt like a step up again, going back to a Griff 500 HC while feeling a little slower is only a little.

TVR changed the published BHP of the 5l in 1998 from 340 to 320.

AFAIK the original hc grind was found to be too shunty at 2,000rpm so was changed to reduce this hence the tvr hp figures changed around about 97/early 98

I am having to sell my 4.0HC because of possible house purchase which is quite sad . I love the way it revs so unlike a V8 . If the house survey comes back bad which it may do I fancy a upgrade to 500 anyway , although i fear finding a good one may take some time , so just wanted to get the general feeling on this 5.0 funny biz. I see there is what seems to be a nice 1 owner 500Hc at Fernies. Have to say though i have seen cheaper cars for sale, though I do want a show car for a small amount of dosh like everyone!.
Anybody driven a good 4.0HC and 500HC similar rev ability?, even with longer stroke.
Does the response suffer or does the bigger valves ,porting, balancing e.t.c compensate for the longer stroke

Hi Rum, hope you manage to stay with your Chim..or get a new one.
Was it the green 500HC at Ferhurst you looked at? I spoke to them about it. It sounded quite good. The front had some stone chips, so hadn't been re-sprayed, which some prefer.
The main thing that put me off was the lack of power steering, and i thought a little expensive.
Don't dismiss the 450 either..

Good luck with house stuff..

Hi waynester.
yeah don't mind stone chips rather have that than 6 shades of green !. Also mine has no power steering and a rather have it that way , less to go wrong. I also drive a old ford with no power which is as heavy as the chim, So no problem. It is expensive though !

Run runner, my 5.0HC has been great only driven it more a month so far, In traffic its acts the same as my 4.0 but when you put you foot down it just revs and pulls like and train. If you havn't got one by the wales trip you can come out in mine if you want. any questions ask away

Thanks Chris that would be great. I have got a house on the go abroad ,offer accepted so my car is up for grabs , though i don't expect it to sell ASAP or before the 24th as i am asking a few notes for it , but as said i looked a loads and there is some real crap out there .It depends really if somebody want to cut to the chase and get a good one around the 10000-11000 mark or as I did spend the extra money in fuel driving all over the place, plus I am lucky as I work for myself so time off was also not problem.
I suspect the house could hit problems so if the cars sells and the house bombs, I fancy a 500. Don't worry though if the car goes before the 24th the Mrs is a manager of a automotive group which has 7 new car dealerships/brands so I am sure we can get something interesting.Did you get the stitching done on your roof ?, give me a shout if you need some thread i will get some and post it to you .
