If you or anyone else in your household is in education (inc. part time) or teaches then you can qualify for the Student Edition of Office 2004:

http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjec

Failing that you'll just need to fork out the going rate which appears to be about £175 for Word alone.

Or you can just download it and install it illegally, not that any of us would endorse that of course...

Edited to say check out Fleabay as well...

Karen, I use NeoOffice - it does pretty much everything MS Office does but for free.

www.neooffice.org/

Save your money, buy something nice instead.

Naughty.

Is OpenOffice available for Mac? That's free too...a good alternative, unless you're wanting to use the higher end features in word....whatever they might be!

Neo-Office is a OS X tweeked version of Open Office.

I use Star Office here in the, erm, office and have Neo on the Mac at home. Both great and the further away I can get form Mr Gates the better IMO.

I'm shocked that anyone would use limewire or torrentx to download Office for Mac. All because it doesn't come with any registration codes and all you have to do is drop the folder into your applications folder does not mean anyone should pirate it.

Someone got nicked once for pirating it - he plugged his iPod into a mac in a computer store and copied it off only to get caught by the security guards.

rofl Amazed that one wasn't more widely reported in the press...you got any links to that story anywhere?

I have brought a fair number of Office Student Editions over the last couple of years & have never had to prove that I meet their requirements (although I actually have)

If you work for a large company you may qualify to purchase it under a site license extension deal. I got my copy for £17.50 (for the full Office suite) under this...
