My 2005 997C2S has now covered 16k miles (a mixture of daily London commuting, a few cross-Europe trips and three track days). The owners manual says first proper service at only 20k miles.

The 20k miles limit just seems so big for a sportscar engine (don't Ferraris have to be serviced every other week..?). Am I being totally paranoid? Should I get the oil changed now? Am I damaging my pride and joy?

Help...

Cheers - Erik.

If you are worried about it, go ahead and change it, it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. It's an even smaller price if you go via Costco, but that's a different thread.

Personally I would have changed it after that many miles, especially with a couple of track days thrown in. Everyone has a different view on what they are comfortable with though.

edited to add:
When did it last have an oil change, it seems like it hasn't from the post, but it's not clear to me.

Personally, if it were my car I would drop it into an Indy garage and get the oil and filters changed.

Well my 997 2s is 12 months old this March, its my second car and I havent useD it over the winter months its just been polished and coverd in the garage with the trickle charge on since November ( sad git I know) but my 110 Defender is my winter fun.
I just bought the oil filter from OPC 10 quid, then the oil from costco at 23.50 4 litres of mobil 1 0w-40 supersyn, so its as cheap as chips to do it. My car has 4.8 k miles on so I warm her up on first birthday a change the oil/filter then enjoy the summer months. Its a doddle to do alan key 8 mm I think in the sump and belt aroud the oil canister and twist off, I just tape mark the canister agains the sump so I tighten it back roughly to the same place, The big plus side of doing it yourself is that you can check for any metal particles in the oil, and also rip open the old paper filter to check for anything big and metalic lurking!!!

I wasn't sure about the service intervals of my 997S, rang the OPC where I bought it and said "I'm coming up to 12,000 miles, is it due a service?"
They took the reg and said "Yep, first service."
Arrived this morning, sat in the lounge, service manager comes out and says "It's not due till 20,000, there's been a mistake".
That was a morning's work lost. Not sure who to blame, the OPC for wrong information or myself for knowing nothing about my bloody car!
