Guys,

I'm told the "hall sensor" goes in the distributor. I'm not really sure what it does, but mine is apparently faulty.

Car's in for a service and the diagnostic tool has showed knocking in a couple of the cylinders and a dodgy hall sensor. The guy that services it is telling me not to bother replacing as long as the car passes its MOT on emissions. Does that sound like good advice? He's done a great job over the last few years and i trust his judgement, but always worth a second opinion...

I think he's assuming I don't want to spend a small fortune on a new dist. (seems you can't buy just the sensor) He is of course assuming correctly, but then i don't want to end up with an even bigger bill if this little sensor causes my engine to go bang in a few months.

Many thanks,
Chris

I have read, that the two functions for the hall sensor are

1. Knock control.
2. Sequential injector control.

Try Porschapart or douglas valley for a second hand Distributor, but get the drive belt changed if you do this, they are not always a known quantity.

HTH

Kevin

Thanks Kevin,

If I decide to change it I was planning on buying second hand, so I'll give the two you suggested a go...

Much appreciated
Chris
