The AJP Griff is a go-er!!
Discussion
Today i finally made my decision on my quandry about which route to take with my griff engine/performance upgrade(see previous thread www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?p=1&f=9&t=344409&h=0 ).I will be having the AJP conversion!
I've made many enquiries, done as much research as possible, and decided it really has to be the route for me.I have asked Jamie at Castle Race Engines, and Julian at Track Car Solutions to provide the engine and carry out the conversion for me,i personally feel this will be a fabulous, and the best possible combination.
The engine will be a 4.5litre,built by Jamie to Red Rose spec, which should satisfy my thirst for performance for a while, whilst providing great driveability
I just cant wait!

ps.as of now,i felt a more appropriate PH name was in order,i'd been looking at changing for a while really. From now on,Mongoose will be no more,i will be known as 'The AJP Griff'

Can't wait to see this. Will you be ready for the growl?
I certainly hope so David. It's obviously a bit of an unknown entity, but unless theres something completely unexpected to overcome, then i can't see why not.My only proviso is that i want the Griff for the month of June,as it's Le Mans, and also my birthday,so i'd like it either finished before,or started after then,as we'll be touring most of that month.
Can't wait to see this. Will you be ready for the growl?Big Ashy-the Griff engine will go up for sale, complete with Omex system and all other mods,at the moment someone has already expressed an interest, and has first refusal when it comes out of the car,if he doesn't want it at that point it will be advertised.
Spend-i think ill stick with my version of handle for now

I thought that there where problems with the chassis flexing?

Can wait to see it finished.. keep us posted of the progress.
I believe TVR built a prototype Griff AJP but decided against it as it was just too wild.
I spent quite a bit of my time going sideways when I owner a Griff 500 - with another 120 horses .. that would happen.
A lot.
As Steve Heath says - dont assume the only job to do is just putting in an engine and new ECU. Other parts will need to be changed to enable it to :
1) Handle the power
2) make the power
Don't let that put you off - just do it

Thanks for all the reply's folks. The project has definately stopped me getting a P******,thanks FFG/Jeffsy!I realise the concerns some have about such a powerful engine going into a Griff, and it's one of several things which i thought a great deal about before taking this on.As Tim says, the AJP has been is lesser chassis, and also more powerful engines have been in a Griff, without drama. The V8s chassis was boderline for Griff power, according to TVR,and thats was it was substatially altered,to a design based on the Tuscan race chassis.I already have much better suspension, and if the need to stiffen the chassis further than std does become evident, even though it is doubtful imho,it will be done if it is possible. The brakes are also something which i am planning to uprate, every ounce of this project is being taken very seriously, and will be carried out to the highest of professional standards,no corners cut etc.
Lindsay-Mel is,as Joo says, very much my equal when it comes to enthusiasm for all things Griff, and is looking forward to this as much as me-i'm very lucky
.
BB-no problem with you doing an article for the Griff pages,as long as you dont want me to write it-i'm crap at writing!
Cheers all,Mike
