22B track prep
Discussion
Hi everyone, I have recently bought a 22B and I am getting it ready for the usual track day jaunts. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with oil surge on this model, or is it adequately baffled. Also does the rear diff need an oil cooler for extended use or is it fairly sturdy?
Cheers.

Depends on how you want to run it on track. Rear diff will be fine, but for longer sessions you'll want to look at fitting AP (or equivalent) brakes up front as your first task. Watch out for fuel starvation when running less than 1/4 tank and coming quickly out of tight/long right handers in 2nd gear.
Baffled sumps are available from various places (Lateral Performance, RCM etc) and would be worthwhile if you plan to do a quite a few track events. You might want to look at getting an aftermarket ECU or remap to make sure all is safe fuelling wise, especially as you'll be using high revs frequently where the ECU ignores the standard knock sensor.
Plenty more advice on bbs.22b.com

Thanks for the advice out there. The car already has the big front APs on, which I have just overhauled. It also has a Graham Goode level 1 engine management upgrade, front mounted intercooler and stainless headers. This is my first Subaru after E30 M3s on the road/track. On a technical note, I have seen some lower front offset wishbone mounts advertised. Can the desired effect be done by just spacing the standard mount from the chassis? Just a thought.

Most peeps reckon on 1 track mile equals about 100 road miles in wear and tear stakes. and 1/2 hour on and 1/2 off is about right fro car and man IMHO
Speak or email John Felstead even if your not a novice
before you go out engines are expensive, so these would be my options on tracking a 22B
1) replace your MAF sensor on MY99-00 most reckon every 12 months (keep old last one as spare)
2) Knocklink
3) Remap, fuel pump & Regulator
After, then consider upgrade depending on usage.
1) AP brakes
2) oil cooler
3) Baffled sump
4) Parrallel fuel feed pipes
And enjoy yourself
