Went to M&S in Hedge End nr Southampton lunch time to get the wife a valentines card. Parked as far away as possible and took the usual 2 spaces to ensure no knocks. Being lunch time it was fairly busy. Anyway, card and choccies purchased, all ok. Car was fine to. So I pulled out of my parking space and travelled 50 yards doing about 2 mph when some tosser (of significantly older years) decided to reverse out of his space directly into the passenger side of my Cerb. F*ck me. I know she's quite low, but she's bright red and sounds like thunder! Anyhow, He has managed to scrape it all down the passenger side from the back of the front wheel arch to the front of the rear wheel arch. I'll try and post some pics tomorrow.

Totally pissed off to say the least - I only had it resprayed 3 months ago. And to cap it all off he wouldn't admit liability or appologise for his error mad

Anyway, got a phone call from his insurance company a bit later basically admitting liability and happy to get everything sorted, which was a relief. So she'll be back up to Austec in a couple of weeks for either a touch-up or another complete respray (the joys of Rosso Pearl). I can't do it any sooner as she's booked in for a Service and MOT next week at Fernies. Also means I'm going to miss the first Goodwood breakie club meet

Some people should not be allowed on the roads.

Report the old fool. Some of these older drivers need their driving re-evaluated.

Sorry to hear that Gobletman, at least the liability is now covered, and a full respray is worth having (even if the previous one has only just lost its sheen!)

Don't deal direct with the 3P insurers - go through your insurers!

I know it's a pain, but if there's any problems with the repair work you've a LOT more rights as your insurers are obligated to you, while 3P insurers are only obligated to pay the repair bill!

I found this out the hard way!

Cheers for the tip.

Austec actually uses a company (called Accident Exchange) to deal with "no fault" claims. I thinks it's a bit like one of those "fallen into a bush, whilst at work, on a Sunday morning.... then you might be entitled to compensation" type of companies. Anyway, they are handling it now and basically will pay for everything including a like for like courtesy car (we'll see) delivered to my door and a low loader for taking mine to and from Austec. They then claim back the costs from the 3P insurers who have already admitted liability. So they take the risk, and there's no come back to me. I assume Austec must make something out of it as well - probably double the cost for the low loader! Anyway, not my problem now.

I did think about letting my insurer deal with it. However I did hear someone with a story once that said something along the lines of.... if the same insurance underwriter is used by both parties, then this can actually be detrimental and often claims will be settled as equal liability. Meaning that the insurance underwriter actually wins in many ways, including the fact that both parties will then have a claim against thus increasing their future premiums. How true, I don't know. But I wouyldn't put it passed them!

I think a lot of that is urban myth. This is cut-and-dried and you've had admission of fault, so no worries on that score.

AE supplied loan car to me, and while it was base-spec (tape player FFS!), dealing with them was very painless (Once I'd said that a n/asp petrol hatchback doesn't = a rwd sportscar, and that they should try again!), and some of the Porker/AM owners have had very good results with them.

But AE won't give you the level of 'cover' that your own insurer will, as they'll be being paid by the 3P insurer. I really would pick up the phone to your insurer, esp. if you're planning to nominate a bodyshop! No sense throwing away some of your rights...
