What are they?

I am going to have a look at a car today with purple rocker covers. Does it signify a different spec of engine, or is it literally that someone has painted the rocker covers purple?

Cheers guys,

Alex

I thought it was a TVR 'trade mark' on all of the 5ltr V8s, but I'm sure someone who knows the full facts will correct me if I'm wrong.

Every one that I've seen has purple covers. Including my first one and the current one.

Mine were purple (Griff 500 1998) until I had them powder coated red...

So it is just a visual thing, rather than being to do with engine specification?

Cheers,

I can't tell you what colour mine ARE (500HC) but I CAN tell you they are not purple...or I would have painted them by now...not too keen on purple....

Visual and nothing else.

More important though, make sure that the mechanicals under the rocker covers are in A1 condition - camshaft and rocker assembly's are known problem areas, especially on cars that have seen little use over the years.

Mine are also purple, I think it was an option like having TVR stitched into the head restraints.

Must say, I'd rather have black or red, or even blue ... I mean, whoever saw purple ignition leads!

Late 5 Litre Chims and Griffs (97/98 onwards) have purple rocker covers. My 99 Griff has them.

I certainly didn't. And I looked for them quite hard. (The wife wanted them, honestly hehe )

I think it just shows you are in touch with your feminine side :grabscoatandrunsfordoor:

Serious - I think they look cool.

Didn't purple rocker covers signify a Serp' engine?

They stopped putting purple rocker covers on the last 500's,which was a shame i think. My 2000 year car just has unpainted covers, which look nothing by comparison

But they can be polished up to look wonderful (not me - mine are "TVR corporate" purple, and I am too lazy.

(well not lazy - every time I am getting to the point of doing such cosmetic niceties, the Griff decides to throw in a little repair or two to take my mind off polishing!)

I still reckon that the cast 'TVR' rocker box looks the best
