Once the 997 starts to develop faults, 996's will go up in value.
Thats my prediction, and Im sticking with it.

cheap! but it has done 144k miles.

Will it start to show its mileage in higher running costs??

only 144k?
at least if you payed up and bought a 144k 996 you'd probably have a new engine...

yeah...I spotted that one this morning too. Provided the maintenance bills/records stack up then should be okay with a little contingency...or turn it into a 'track-slag'

May well be nothing wrong with it - My 133k car that just got written off was mechanically perfect. To be honest, priced the way it is, I suspect that this car will need work. It's not the norm even for a high mileage example like that to be so cheap. I'd say it should be nearly 20k if in good nick, and I'll bet either the (second) clutch or the suspension or both is shagged.

Good lower mileage examples seem to be holding their value or even appreciating a little - I've been looking at a lot of ads in the last few days and those who might be gloating about the beard and sandals brigade losing their shirts on 993's are being a little hasty in my opinion

There was another highish mileage 993 car sold for similar price in last couple of weeks. If somebody needs to sell a car quickly doesn't neccessarily mean it is falling apart - I bet dealers are giving people these prices to owners for their cars every day of the week so its only private sales we are not used to seeing these prices being 'advertised'.

That 993 is being sold by a dealer, so the previous owner must have go well shafted, was desperate or the car isn't what it seems to be (after all, it being offered by a dealerhehe)

Lots of twitching going on!tumbleweed
I say buy new run for ten years on OPC warranty and dont worry about it.
It strikes me that huge paranoia exists in terms of build quality/reliabilty/re-sale values.
You aircon boys are hard to please, if you cant run the milage to 200k for ten years then sellit for double what you paid you are pissed off!
How can I put this...eeer "WAKE UP GET REAL"!!!shoot
Dont mean to have a go but heay life is really not to serious, maybe a lot of the pleasure is taken away because people over-stretch themselves in the first place to buy, so when something does go wrong its like a end of the world happening..cry

I don't understand this obsession with resale values. Buy a car, depreciate it to zero the second you pick up the keys, get out and enjoy it! If it is stolen, crashed or disintegrates (996). No worries it was on the books at 0, anything you get back for it is a bonus, same if you sell it.

Looks like a good spec as well. The only thing missing from the list is that it is a pre-varioram model. Definitely worth a look.

My only concern would be that the engine has probably only got another 100K left in it.

Cheap indeed but remember it's 14 years old and still hanging on to 25% of original price.

Joking aside, assume that with it's OPC service history it has also had any advisory work done, so brakes / discs etc should be in good order. Now providing the clutch is sound you would need to allow £1500 to £2000 to refurbish the suspension. Another £1000 for odds and sods, paintwork rectification etc. Now assuming there are no major engine / gearbox problems, you could have yourself a tidy 993 for not much money.

If i were looking for a 993 it would be on my list.

That is bloody cheap......its either a bargain or something not right with it.
This is verging on 3.2>964 territory.
i'd tread carefully..........
