Dear All,

Can anyone recommend any firms/people for a pre-purchase inspection of a 993? I've heard Tognola Engineering are good but I'd be interested to hear about other people's experiences.

What should it cost?

Thanks,

Giles

GT One in Chertsey, Surrey. Jct 11 M25. They'll do a very thorough job including using a paint depth meter etc.

If it's an early(ish) car Russell Lewis @ RSR Engineering in Grayshot is an acknowledged expert.

Thanks for the responses so far chaps - will investigate them all.

I think I'll need the 'inspector' to go to the garage - will any or all of these guys do that?

Thanks again,

Giles

Peter Morgan is mobile. The rest will need you to take the car to them.

Peter has a rock-solid reputation in the Porsche community and is one of the first names mentioned whenever anyone asks about PPI-ing a 911.

Abarber,

Peter conducted the PPI on my 993. His normal routine is to take his trolley jacks with him and raise the car that way. If he is inpsecting at a garage/dealer premises he will ask if he can use their ramp. My car was purcased from Autobahn in Coventry so PCT next door let him use one of their ramps for a short time (they were very busy). I met him there so he talked me round it and showed me underneath. He drops the main undertrays to check for oil leaks etc and to photograph the area.

I guess if there is no ramp available he does the whole job with trolley jacks.

Peter Morgan inspected mine using trolley jacks.

He still spotted and photographed the weeping crankcase seal and the underbody scuffs at the front.

I can heartily recommend his service, nothing has gone wrong with the car or needed replacing that he didn't mention or warn me about. You can't really ask for more than that.

I think a big part of his inspection is that he actually drives the cars, and having driven so many he has a good feel for what a good car should drive like.

He doesn't conduct one as a matter of course. I'm not sure if he has the equipment, you would need to ask him.

I didn't request one when he did my PPI on the basis that he had driven so many vehcicles of this type that he would know if it was down on power or if there was anything amiss with the engine by driving it and listening to it.
