I want to connect to an AS400 using IE in the format
ftp://userass/server/dir

if I connect using normal DOS ftp and CD dir, then all is ok,
as soon as I use IE and give path all goes pear shaped and it wont connect
if I use ftp://userass/server/ then it will connect but the sub dir I need is not there.

any ideas ?

Wasn't there some kind of IE patch that affected userass passing on the URL a while back? I remember because it affected some of the sites I frequented at the time....

Eta, sorry doesn't look like that was it cause this article says that protocols other than http aren't affected:

It seems to be the way the AS400 handles CD requests,
but as I dont know anything about AS400 I have to wait on the IT bods in France, could be a while

The 400 ftp server is a slightly odd beast and it very much depends on the way its been configured.

You're best off using either DOS or a FTP client than IE. I never had joy using IE to do FTP work in the 15 years that I used 400s
