So, got almost all my kit (as a newbie) but yet to settle on trousers. Ideally, i'd like something with armour, that i can pull over a pair of jeans/combats. Something warm enough for now, but without the jeans cool enough for summer. i'm willing to spend. What do i go for?

Cheers.

I got a nice set of Alpinestars with removable thermal lining that I use in the same manner you are proposing. Knee and shin armour only right enough, no hip protection, but they cover my work trousers every morning.

I've got some Frank Thomas textile trousers with knee armour. There is a pocket to add hip armour if required. removable lining made of wind proof material, however i never have it in.

cheap but do the job, go over my work wear(combat type effort) havn't fallen apart after a year and have kept me dry so far (ride in every day)

The some of the poppers on my frank thomas jacket have fallen off though, so i don't think its the best quality gear on the market.

If you've got a Hein Gericke near you they would be worth a look. Their stuf comes with a 2 year guarentee for workmanship and seems decent quality. Knowledgable staff too in the cheltenham store always a pleasure buying things from them!

As an aside - I'd recommend hip armour as each time I've high sided I've ended up with nasty bruising on my up thigh/hip
