With the 2007 season fast approching its first events (ok those Hardy Rally Folks have never stopped) once again the Orange Army on the bank look to swell their numbers so that the full calender of events can be run safely...



If you've never thought about it, and want an idea of what we do... heres a short [video]

Its never too late to help out, there are still training days around the country that any prospective new marshal will be welcome to attend: a list here: www.volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk/training.php

And you'll be made welcome at any event you would want help out at - from a small club event, up to the British GP*... and abroad to Le Mans*
You get the best seats in the house - as close to the racing as you can get without being in the drivers seat (and some times you end up in that seat too when a car needs shifting and the driver has been carted away) and free camping facilities at most circuits and hillclimbs for officals

*a year or 2s experiance is needed before you can qualify the Marshal at a GP or Le Mans

I'm always amazed that this poster is still such a popular marketing tool after 90 years. It shows how effective it was.

Sorry that I can’t offer to help as I’ll be the bloke with the bloody great tripod and camera just down from the post making sure I get your best side as you lot try to explain to some 19 year old that ripping the head off and sh1tting down the neck of the other bloke 10 meters down the Armco isn’t the nest career move

I would urge anyone who truly loves mortorsport to try it though, even if you only do a few meets a year at your local track. The boys in Orange are one of the main components that make it all happen. Without them there really would be no mortorsport in this country.

If you love the history of the sport as well there are no end of old boys out there who know more about the sport and tracks than any* (*listener discretion is advised and box of Saxon occasionally required )

Added to the above if there are any novice drivers out there who haven’t tried it you can get an extra signature iirc for a day of your time and even get to learn a bit about just what being a marshal entails other than dragging your sorry arse and car out of the kitty litter.

Rude-Boy - interestingly at training the other week - fighting drivers - advise was A) dont get involved unless they are in danger of getting in the way of those still on the black stuff... B) they look really silly punching each other while wearing helmets - like watching an episode of Power Rangers

...and girls....not just being pedantic - there are lots of very good female marshals around so ladies do feel it is something that you can do.

Some girls don't fancy being "out on the bank" - there are lots of other roles, pitlane, startline, asembly, paddock, communications etc. - we have a large number of female pit marshals who are very very good what they do as they may not have the brawn to shift cars out of gravel traps but they have very good communications skills and can deal with teams/drivers/punters well in times of stress.

Yup, don't sit in your armchair, get involved, I've never looked back since, Love every minute of it!!
Castle Combe has it's Training day on the 1st of April, Come along and see what it's all about, Email Nicki (chief marshal) on [e-mail] for more info (say Lee sent you, she won't be surprised!!) She may not be to quick replying as they are marshalling in Florida at the moment, and I will be soon too!!!

I've just received my BMMC and local car club memberships - can't wait to do some events - especially at a redesigned Anglesey.

Just got to start getting some of the gear - bit by bit of course.

Well might well see you at Oulton and Anglesey then... dont forget theres 3 sprints at Aintree run by the liverpool motor club on the old GP circuit on the inside of the Grand National Course, the Chief Marshal, Bill( marshals AT liverpoolmotorclub DOT com ), i'm sure, would welcombe an extra pair of hands.

and if you fancy a short trip - Loton Park nr Shrewsbury runs several 2 one-day hillclimbs (ie a seperate event each day) over the season - marshals are well looked after down there with free camping in the deer park friday and saturday nights, a small amount paid to cover expenses, sandwiches at lunch time, and sometimes a hog roast at some of the bigger events like the British Hillclimb Championship rounds, and the VSCC - Loton is run by the Hagley and Distric Light Car Club, and the Chief Marshal is Peter Hempson: peter DOT hempson AT cedo DOT com - Tell him Lord Summerisle set you indeed - Loton is running a Trainning session on Sunday 4th March in the Village Hall - Starts at 10, should finish at 4, plans to cover fire training, major incident simulation and extraction from crashed car email Dave Parr at: clubsec AT hdlcc DOT com if you want to attend

Aye, tis not far.
Have been able to marshal at Oulton finish at 6ish have the after race free can o' beer, pack the tent up and get down to Loton in time for the Hog Roast at 7:30...equally its just as easy to get down there from Aintree...

Take the Chester to Welshpool road via Wrexham and its just past the village of Pant, past Rodneys Monument
