I successfully managed to fall for this yesterday: http://news.com.com/E-mail+threats+br I know, I know, stupid to have clicked on the email, ought to know better, only myself to blame...

My browser keeps crashing this morning, but Norton is still unable to detect anything untoward. How should I go about getting rid of this, and how can I go about tracking down the sad bastard responsible in order to cause him/her/them some severe physical harm?

My wife got sent two of these yesterday.

Clever lass left 'em in her Inbox and actually checked with me first - and of course just deleted them. Very sneaky though.

Sad thing for the on-line greetings card sites - fear of virus/malware/etc attacks must be ruining their business.

MAM

I've recently swapped Norton for Avast ( www.avast.com ) on a couple of machines and not only is it free for home users but it also picked up abuot 6 viruses that Norton hadn't found. God knows how long they'd been there.

I'd suggest getting shot of the NAV and giving it a go.

i hate Norton. found it too resource hungry and not very good.

AVG and AVAST are really good. so to is spy bot search and destroy. if you want to pay for security get symantec or mcfee.

Mon Ami, the article says that it is a trojan so you might have better success with SpyBot or Ad-Aware, run them in safe mode.

Alternatively, Google the name of the trojan listed in the articles Sophos link (W32/Dref-AB) and you may find posts in forums telling you how to get rid of it.

Personally i find AVG rediculously slow in doing virus scans, despite being set to do it in the quicker mode.
Avast is very good

Run the usuals;

spybot, adaware, windows defender etc, and as many AV's as you've got access to, should rid you of the nasties
