Hi there, please go easy on me as i am new on here

I have recently purchased a Porsche 996 Turbo in red but the paintwork seems quite dull compared to others i have seen, what should i use to reignite its sparkle and shine, any ideas would be great

Houston, this is Can. We have worm separation....

This is a highly subjective question and the answer you get will depend on who you ask. The usual suspects which routinely get mentioned are Zymol, Zaino, Swissol and Meguiars. Autoglym is also quite widely used but not so universally praised.....

A lot boils down to personal preference and how much time and effort you're prepared to invest.

I'd agree from personal experience that Zaino is good stuff and pretty easy to use.

I'm not sure whether it has changed now but the problem with it used to be that there wasn't a UK distributor, which meant you had to pay to import it from Germany. Or twist the Canadian re-seller's arm and get him to ship it outside his area

As a result, it tended to be more of a faff, and usually more expensive, than Zymol and Meguiars.

ETA: A quick Google shows that there's now a UK distributor!

Advanced Car products is effectively twice the price of Zaino Store in USA. Best bet is if you know wsomeone in the states who can post over to you.

Left-field answer here, but I have recently branched out to some stuff by a company called Bilt Hamber. I used to use autoglym, but that is knocked into a cocked hat by this stuff.

It did well in a Practical Classics polish test a while ago, and I bought some on the back of that. I am very pleased, and it is cheap stuff compared with the likes of zymol/meguiars etc. I have compared panels done with zymol with panels done with the bilt hamber stuff and can't see any difference in either bright or dull light.

Any one use Sonus cleaning products? Any comments? They sell them off the www.autopia-carcare.com/ site. I got some of there stuff last year and it worked nicely on my humble GTI.

I guess it depends on the amount of effort needed.

For working by hand Autoglym SRP is good for something you can get cheap locally.

Of the stuff that you have to get "over the web" have a look at Klasse AIO, Carlack, Einszett or maybe the Zymol/Swissol paint cleaners.

The other option of course is to pay a few hundred quid and have it detailed professionally and then just do the regular top-up work.

I bet if you got a number of people together they'd do a good group discount - they have done me some great deals in the past - happy to ask....

So...who is after what and I'll see what I can do?
