I remember reading somewhere before that the circuit used to be different to how it is now. I think it was much longer, but I cant remember where I read it. Anyone know about this?

Ah, I looked it up, here is some info

www.maisonblanche.co.uk/circuits.html

Anyone care to plot the original on the map ? I now remember I was reading about it in one of the race programmes one year.

Cheers.

Where would be the best place to let off large fireworks! Arnage corner or the porsche curves? and would Google Earth be able to see them on race week?

silly

Google Earth isn't live satellite pictures. It's a montage of pictures taken over time and pieced together. Hence it's never dark!!!

Doubt it, that picture was taken before 2004... Before 2004 there was a huge Hedge that ran through the middle of the Maison Blanche campsite which can be clearly seen from this map. The Hedge was removed between the 2003/2004 Le Mans.

That's a hell of a lot better than it was, but still not as clear as it could be.

Compare it to this one http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&h of the Chamade circuit (with the old Clermont Ferrand GP circuit) and you'll see the difference - the curbs and road markings are clearly seen in Chamade yet LM is quite hazy.

Just had an idea! Mabie we could get the "Top Gear" team to launch our own PISTON HEADS satellite over the Le Mans curcit during race week and watch our antics? We could use a 2cv or a Sinclare C5 straped to the rocket with a big camera!!!!!!! I recon it would get a lot further up into the atmosphere than that Robin Reliant?

No need to bother with planning - Just head towards the noise, keep your torches off and heads down...

I came a across a wide strip of water doing that once - at least the picture might help me avoid it!
