So, i currently have a Mk2 Audi TT on order (3.2 Q) which i'm due to collect at the start of March. However i've got an urge to sell it on (stron prices because of the long wait) and look for a Ferrari 348 GTS.

Don't start going, 'get the 355' because i can't afford it! But i've always loved the looks of the 348 and i've seen a good one for sale.

It'd likley get used for about 10k a year, is this practical?

Am i mad?

Should i leave PH and stop being silly?!

"It'd likley get used for about 10k a year, is this practical? " I don't understand this part at all, but as a wise man once said (Steve Cropley from Autocar actually) "A man who gets the opportunity to buy a Ferrari and doesn't, should be shot".

Lol, a wise man indeed. What i was getting at is that it won't be a second car, it'd be my main (and only) car, so it'll get used for around 10k miles a year. Will this be ok, or is it likely to result in some heft servicing costs?

Oh dear...

I'm very tempted, and have reviewed many of the 348 threads here. However it'll be a jump into the unknown...

DO IT!!! You know it makes sense! The trouble is the more you procrastinate the less likely you are to do it ... and you will then regret not!!!! So do it now. I'm having excactly the same thoughts right now (although it's over a Cayman or an Aston AMV8) and I know that if I leave it it won't happen and a dream will never come true!

Johnny - they are superb cars. You need a service every 6k miles at either £500 or £700 at the good independents. Check when the cam belt was changed as this needs doing every three years or 24-30k miles depending how brave you feel. This takes the major service bill to about £1200-1500 at the indies as it is an engine out job (you do usually get your cam covers re-painted as part of the deal though )

Any questions just email me but i loved mine and deeply regret selling it.

Also have a shufty at club scuderia.co.uk - a bit cliquey but also a lot of good advice to be had there

Sorry to Hijack the Thread....

But Gary surely AMV8 all the way....

If they are the only two you are choosing from then the AMV8 has to be the one.

Do it I went from a TT to a maser 3200 and now in a 4200 spyder - both daily drivers come rain wind hail snow etc. The change to an f car or a maser or something is one you won't regret. Do go in openminded - they are not always germanic in reliability (though the 4200 has been more reliable that the TT ever was!)

Whats the worst that can happen? The worst it costs a bundle of cash but at least you will have done it.

This particular forum is not about reason or sensibilities A few years back I might have bought an M3 or porker or something normal but I went to maranellos and to meridien and ended up with a 3200. I've now got a 4200 Spyder and hankering after cars like Spykers, Gallardos, and Ferrari spyders. Why because life is too short and if you can you most definitely must.

Picture it 10 years from now - what will you regret buying another car similar to what you have now? OR buying rare piece Italian exotica (even if you do end up spunking a lot of cash on it I very much doubt you would regret it in the future!)

You say you've seen a good one for sale, how many other 348s have you looked at to have a balance view of how good it really is ?

Do alot of research, find what their common faults are, consider things like warranty, resale potential (you may love a green 348, and it maybe all you've ever wanted but if you're going to take a kicking when selling it, that may taint the experience)

Of course you are right! I'm doing the heart and head thing right now (head saying it's a £25K saving) BUT I saw an AMV8 outside my local restaurant on Sandbanks yesterday and it's just so achingly beautiful!!

Dave,

Believe me, I *KNOW* this forum is not about sensibilities... We know each other from the TT Forum by the way...we spoke about me buying a Maser some time back but I went for a CLK55 Cab in the end...

Well if the new one is anything like the drawing on the thread on this forum, I might even bite the bullet
