booting up xp/recovery "help"

hi all,i am fairly new to computers,when i boot up my laptop a screen comes start xp or recovery console after 3 seconds starts xp,im sure it used to start xp straight away and missed this screen,i probably have altered something,its been like this for a while,so cant use system restore,help please.

Nothing to worry about, you can get rid if you want though.

right click on my computer
properties
advanced
startup and recovery settings
untick the 'time to display list of operating systems' box.
ok ok etc.
done
