Suspect I've managed to land a nasty

Got an AVG warning the other day while browsing... gave me the option of 'healing' the infection, which I did. Confirmed healed ok.

Have since updated AVG and run full scans... nothing untoward picked up.

However, since then, images have sporadicallyu not been displaying properly in Internet Explorer, particularly ones where a new page window opens. Typically, I get a half width display and the window then refuses to close. I end up with a series of running half asses windows that I can't close down.

Initially thought I'd just crrupted IE and was thinkig I'd try and reinstall over the top. But, then tried running the Trend Micros online virus scan and every time I try and launch, it auto closes and boots me straight out of Explorer... I'm assuming I've still got a Trojan or something that doesn't want to be evicted? Soud reasonable... any strategies for getting rid?

yes AND AdAware from Lavasoft.

Install both, let them update (same as you would AVG when you first installed it). Run one after the other.
Reboot in to safe mode.
Run SpyBot and AdAware.
Reboot to normal.

And just like Cilit Bang... the malware is all gone (hopefully).

Fingers crossed Spyware S&D has done the trick.. did identify and fix a registry change in IE.

Had forgotten this freebie, but did already try the Lavasoft Adaware one (with no joy).

Cheers guys

Don't stick your tounge out at me. :P

Besides given both a whirl is always best, one tends to find things the other either misses or can't remove

Ok, try running the two in safe mode (i.e. start tapping F8 as soon as the computer is turned on).
HiJackThis and pasting the log to their forum for diagnosis will also be worth a try.

What version of IE? If it's 7, right click and start without add-ons. If that solves it temporarily then its just a matter of working through disabling one at a time to narrow it down.
