Hi I am looking at creating a site for a club that we have just started.

When I look at buying a domain name it is say 10 quid for 2 years. What happens after two years? Is the rate the same? Is it linked to inflation? or can they just charge what they like?

Is there a way that I can register a domain for life?

Final question can anyone recommend a good site for hosting which is reasonable, I would like a couple of e-mail addresses included in the hosting.

Cheers Harry

You pay again at the prevailing rate at the time.

You need to renew registration every 2 years.

You can register .com .net .org for up to 10 years, .uk for only 2 years.

The price will be determined by the market, but in the last 4 years our domain prices have remained static / gone down.

Technically the price could leap, but then you'd simply transfer your domain to someone else cheaper, so in the real world market forces keep prices pretty much inline.

We offer the cheapest .com .net in Europe afaik!

Check my profile for cheap domains and hosting.

Thanks for the info guys.

At register1.net if you register for 3 years on a hosting plan do you get the domain name free for the 3 years? Also if you were to want to transfer the domain name to another provider after 3 years would I actually own the name?

Cheers Harry

Hi Harry,

If you register a VDS Pro plan for 2 years, you get the third year of the hosting plan free, and you get a Free domain name (so you'd have to renew in 2 years on a .uk, one year on the rest)

You do own the domain, and you can transfer it away FREE at any time if you desire (not that anyone does )

HTH
