Hi my discovery rear floor has gone , has anyone fitted a new floor pan and if yes does the original have to be completely cut out or do you just take the original back as far as the rust goes(the whole car then) and weld the new one up/over to that, any help would be appreciated also should I check anything else whilst I am doing it, thanks.

yea i have done a few!! They all go after about 8 years, some even less! You should really drill out all the spot welds and take the whole lot out. You could just weld over top i suppose though...

There's a section on how to do it in this month's LRO magazine...

Get last month's copy too, tells you how to get the old one out, and next months covers rustproofing the new floor...

hi guys,

what if there are just a few rust spots? It seems like the top layer of the steel had rusted in spots and I rubbed it down to the shiney stuff underneath.

Then gave all the spots a good knock so there was still good steel in the floor, then hammerited over the top.

Is that the best thing to do? There seemed to also be a few small bumps in line with the floor x-member, so I sprayed waxoyl underneath in between the ridges of the floor and the x-member.

Should that keep the rust-bugs away for a while?

Keep a regular check on it as mine started with a couple of rust spots but the entire floor went after about 2 years. What made it worse was that it started eating into the main panels at the side.
Make sure you take the carpet out fully and check ant the front where the seats sit down. Also check the N/S wheel arch where the seat belt anchor is. Mine went completely and it could have been fatal to a passenger using that belt in a heavy impact.

cheers. My arches are all ok and the weld between the floor and side panel is straight and clean.

But for those of you who have had the floor replaced - did you all do it yourself, or get someone else to? How much does it cost if worst comes to worst?
