Getting down and dirty

As many of you already know, I did not build my own car.
As a result, I do not feel that I have 'bonded' with it so to speak and am a little apprehensive about working on it.
Well, things have come to a head and I have had no other choice but to take the bull by the horns and get stuck in. I don't know why but I really did not want to remove the inlet manifold to address an oil leak (yes I know it is a SBC but this was a problem that might have occurred on any motor) caused by silicone being applied a little too conservatively it would seem. Once the motor had been opened up, everything seemed a little less serious and I really got into it and felt in charge.
Like most of us, I don't like things going wrong, but feeling a little more confident and un-phased certainly helps.

Once again it was time to get intimate with the beast and after a days graft ( many thanks to Clivey, my Oracle ), all the major work has been sorted and the day was brought to an end with a rewarding 'sart up' and certainly upon first inspection, all seems well. I am certainly no mechanic but can do a fair amount of stuff myself fitting wise but these cars although simple to work on are so fiddly and difficult to get your hands into spaces at times. I will need to hone my patience levels or I may well find myself giving the car an un-needed face lift, with a hammer!
I must say, I do have an awfull lot of respect for those of you that have built the car yourself. I loved the organising, parts matching and sourcing, meeting different and interesting people and the plethora of related facets involved but the final finishing off is killing me. I really want it all finished for the 'Stoneleigh showdown' but finding the motivation is hard.

Just think of all the people that'll take the p s out of you if you don't turn up at Stoneleigh in the Ultima.
That should should be enough motivation !!!!
I have committed to go to a meet the weekend before Stoneleigh and the fuel system is in bits at the moment, but I'm determined to get it ready 'cos of the p s taking I'll get from GTRGAZ and TUXMAN!!!!
That line of thinking will not be of much use to me as my skin is nearly as thick as my head and I generally give as good as I get in the piss taking stakes (ask Ditto!). I guess the weather at the moment does not help either, lovely for being out and about in a CanAm maybe but not so good for locking yourself away in a dingy garage working your way through a list of finishing touches.

Don't worry Wayne. There is no way I'll get all my jobs done before Stoneleigh you will just see it as a work in progress and look forward to the additions each time you see it.
I have so many more exciting projects planned for the car. Regards Dave

Wayne, I don't care how you do it but,[bangs fist on table] just get it there, even if it's on the back of a damn trailer
It is funny that you should say that Gaz but in case there was any doubt that the GTW and crew would be attending Stoneleigh and to pre-empt any coceivable problem, I have accquired a Volvo T5 tow car and should the unthinkable happen, I WILL be there with the car on a trailer as you demanded so nicely and all
