I was at a loose end today so decided to take a drive in the peak district. I took the camera and am fairly pleased with the results. Is there anything I could have done better? Like location, composition and exposure.

I have just previewed the post on my laptop and there is nothing like the detail in the sky that shows on my desktop PC. The pictures are made up of about five different exposure merged together using the merge to hdr feature in PS CS2 is there a better way to do this.

Really like the first one, but I can't help thinking that it would have been even better had the car been on the road.

Look good to me . Mind you I know nothing about photography! I see your MINI is suffering from the typical dirt that that they all throw up - its impossible to keep them clean in this weather.

It would have been better on the road but it was fairly busy. I was using the timer to take the pictures and I have four pictures with other cars driving past.

The car wasn't as dirty when I started out I managed to take a no through road that although it was shown as a road on the sat nav I think it was more like a bridleway

what camera did you take them on ? 1st one is good if not a bit underexposed as i think the light meter on the camera has over compensated for the mid tones present

Thet were taken with a 300d. The first one was done with 5 different exposures then blended together using merge to hdr in PS. Is there a better way to combine all the pictures as I the ones with the quickest exposure have some good sky detail but the car is underexposed. Obviously the ones where the car is OK the sky is totally blown out.

ah good i can help then as ive been messing arround with wait for it a 300d and my mini as i borrowed the camera to see how this digital malarky stacked up to film but i found the light metering system on the cannon over compensates massivly you need to take a reading of the lightest bit and the darkest bit then under expose it a little to get the best of the sensor i found

heres some of the ones i did www.flickr.com/photos/exiledesign/sets/72157594523408354/ 90% of them were taken on ISO 100 with the apature between 16 and 22

Getting a nice filter to darken the sky would be nice, then you can up the exposure for the car a little without totally blowing out the sky... maybe?!

Better than using a higher dynamic range which can make them look un-natural and wash out the shadows which are already weak with no direct sunlight.

everything as a fairly central feel to it...
