Stored for 2 Years... What to do to get it on the road?
Saturday 17th February 2007
I've had a bike stored for 2 years run on average about once every 4/5 months.
It needs an MOT, but aside from this, what would you have replaced? I don't want it just to be legal, but safe to ride and less likely to have a major incident at 80mph!

Have a careful look at the tyres. They can perish if the bike has sat on the ground in one position for long periods of time.
Apart from that, change the oil and other fluids.

Indeed tyres are your first port of call...then...Oil Chain, brake fluid renewal if it`s going darker than clear..,battery may be past it`s best (if it`s not been hooked up to a charger) ,check the brake pads still have plenty of wear left in them...perhaps it`s worth even cleaning the brake pistons while your in there doing bits & bobs..if you want to keep them free from sticking...check the fork seals are still good too...

I'd say normal pre-ride checks (that we are all supposed to do). So:
Tyres
Brakes
All electrics
Steering operation
Chain - adjustment and lube
I'd leave the rest to the service that I'd get done straight away - if these 5 things are OK it should be fine.
