Hi Guys just wondered what oil you all use for your Chimaera's? I know mobil 1 is recomended but what type i.e fully synthetic 15W-50 or semi synthetic 10W-40? Is there much of a difference??

Cheers

Thomo, i use 5/40 fully syn quantum with no problems i know some of the guys use Motul or silkolene these are both top quality oils also,10/40 semi syn is also a good cheaper alternative.

A lovely ,old and contentious issue this!I'm now back using Mobil 1 15w50 Motorsport, but would also be just as happy using Motul 15/50,Silkolene Pro-s 10/50 or Redlines equivalent grade, all of these are top quality.Just make sure you don't use too thin a grade, and change regularly

Went for Silkolene 10w-50, on offer at opie . I think good grade ,but what do I know.Mine lives in side a heated garage so I think 5w is not so important. Also these engine where designed when straight 30 or 40 where probably used or in the slightly later date of SD1 20W/50. That's what they used at my old mans Austin Rover garage back in the mid 80's. Iknow they had different cams and probably weaker springs, But cams were not such a issue on high mileage Rovers unless they abused service schedules e.t.c.
