Roof down advice
Discussion
Went out for a run today....roof down of course
When it comes to putting the rear screen down I seem to have difficulty in getting the two fabric bits (where the velcro is) to 'tuck in'
They seem to just 'flare' out and it looks a little untidy especially in my wing mirrors!
Forgive me if this has been covered in a previous thread but does anyone have any tips/techniques as to the best way to put the rear section down so as to ensure the fabric bits tuck in? Does the temperature of the rear screen make a difference i.e. a warmer screen is more maleable thus making it easier to tuck the 'flaring' fabric bits in.
Thanks in anticipation for any help

Not sure what you mean by 'flaring bits'.
On ours, I pull the fabric off the velcro inside and put the hood down resting my arm across the plastic to make a nice fold, all that happens on the outside is the bit of hood directly behind the doors just puckers up a bit.
Also, it'll go much further down in the summer when the plastic is warm.

I know what you mean. I usually remove hard top, push rear about half way down, then undo inside and outside velcros and push the outside bit in a bit - with the roof half down there is a fold of material that it kind of goes under (hard to explain this is without pics!) then push the roof the rest of the way down.

Thanks .Mark - I suspected that the screen will go down further in the warmer summer months thus making it easier for the fabric bits behind the doors to tuck in....less puckering up! The screen seems really hard to fold in this weather and kinks can form easier, even with a rolled up towel in place!

Thanks bigdods - will try your method next time.....hopefully when the warmer weather comes it will be easier to do
I suspected that the fold of material must be able to be tucked under somehow. I guess I'll have to have a few more goes at it

The screen on mine split a couple of weeks ago...i had the roof down for about 3 days...got up to go to work and it was snowing so i thought i had best pull the roof up and thats when it went bang...!
Shall be keeping an old hairdryer in the garage in future...!

I know exactly which bit you mean and I'm afraid there will always be a little bit that sticks up, that's just the way it is I'm afraid, but more than made up by the fact that when down, these roofs are probably the neatest (non-integral) design there is

When my roof is down the plastic kind of rests on the top of the seat belt thingy and if you pull the seat belt it won't pull back because of that, most annoying.

Mine does that but you only have to push the plastic behind the seat belt loop a bit and it will sit clear. I ought to add, it's important to keep a screen wipe or something in the boot to clean the rear screen when putting the hood down, if it's dusty then the plastic rubs together with the dirt and scratches.

Know what you mean, that's happened to me last week but yesterday it didn't restrict the seat belt at all for some reason.....must be something to do with the different way the roof can fold down??

I was told, by TVR, that the velro flaps should be pulled outside before the roof is lowered and yes it's not perfectly neat but what the heck...
I suppose pulling the velcro through would stop it from catching as the roof is lowered. I just unfasten the velco inside and out, lower the roof, then smooth the flaps back down. Still looking forward to andy-w's tonneau though, problem solved! richb said:

Is this going to be a cover for the rear section or a proper tonneau? Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
