My recollection is that Gordon Murray only put a 600cc in his

Always fancied doing one of these. Came to the conclusion that a BMW boxer would be the best set-up - lots of low-down torque, shaft driven and the gearbox can be fitted with a reverse as it was originally engineered for a small car.

The two scariest local versions of rear engined mini cars I've seen were George Spratt's Isetta Bubble car http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isetta fitted with a tweaked mini 1275unit in the rear. The rear track was wider than the front a reversal of the standard Isetta and it was also shorter!
The other was Noel Snooks Suzuki Fronte with a 3 liter v6 and transaxle driving the rear wheels. Very "interesting" performance apparently.
