Hi,

I am just getting into photography. I really like taking shots of cars that have motion blur in them, but am finding that I am going to need a rig with suction pads to do it properly.

Where can I buy a rig with suction pads really cheap?

Here is one I have tried so far:

If you want off-the-shelf rigs then Hague are probably the best option:

eek OUCH! Do you mean that? Wouldn't a half decent set up be better value if your (more valuable?) camera body is secure?

shout Guys!

We need a Gravy/Carter moment or two to savour.....

I think B Hague is the way to go. I'm not sure you'll find any cheaper anyway. This is Matts rig:

A lot of photographers (With Matt being a notable exception) are very precious about showing anyone their rig setup. I suppose in the past it was fair enough because good rig shots were the exception, but these days I see no point.

By the way George, it's best if you resize your pictures before posting them, at 6 megapixels that image you posted is a bit big! Plus it will very quickly use up any bandwidth allowance you might have.

They are solid enough to hold a camera but not tha resistant to vibration and you can't get your camera very far from the car hence your angles for shots are limited.

No built in redundancy with only one sucker too so if that fails your whole mount falls.

Up to you but I wouldn't bother, save a bit more and get something bigger.

mine is a B-hague one (twin mount) you can also buy the vacum mounts (manfrotto 241V) and a few super clamps (manfrotto 035) and the joining pin (manfrotto 061) and make your own. the B-hague one is effective for part of the car.

I wouldnt buy that. It looks pretty mincing/limiting. I'd get some superclamps and suckers and adapt your tripod (assuming you have one). That will open the door to some secksy bolt on action. Rig shots are fun, but you can also get some nice stuff just by tracking from the boot of a car in front, which is good fun too until you decide to smash all your stuff on the road in the middle of portugal.

Thanks for your help.

Where could I buy some decent good quality suction pads to attach to my tripod?

search online for them. the superclamps are cheapest from tenco with the 5% voucher TECNO5 the suction mounts are about £70 each. the connecting pins for the superclamps are about £2.50 each

Matt

really like that pic, not even broached into that area of work or attempted it but would like to have a crak so the kit you've mentioned on here looks the way to go.

But on tha tpic, was the cam attached to the car then the poles photoshopped out?

Hi guys,

Seeing as it's my mount you've linked to I feel I should speak up.

Without it turning into an advert type thread, this is only one of our range, see www.fastfilms.co.uk for more of what we do. You can still get some good results (in the hands of a good photographer i.e not me!) with this basic mount -

These were my first ever attempt at this type of shot, using my camera (canon S3is) for the first time too.

The suggestion of using suction mounts and superclamps onto your tripod is a good one. however, the amount of leverage it places on some of the suckers can be a lot. Make sure the tripod you use has little flex, and that the lower legs can cope with the clamping pressure from the super clamps.

A couple of pics from one of the rigs we sell -

Gravy,

How long does it take you to Photoshop out the rig arms? Do you take another picture and copy over the rig parts or use clone stamp tool?
Top shopping !!
