I have decided I want a 996tt, so a few weeks ago I hired one for the weekend, to see if I liked it, needless to say I did.
This weekend I went to look at An x50 manuel, 50000 miles, special order cobalt blue, £44495, after the standard car I noticed it did't have the immediate shove low down, it was only after I got back, and did some research that I found out that it has bigger turbos, so this is understandable. I didn't have the oppertunity to really give it everything, to experience the top end power.
So my question is, is the the x50 worth getting over a similar priced standard car?
The car that I hired is also for sale, only 38000 miles for £39995, but in boring seal grey. Being a hire car did put me off, but apparently its only been hired out 3 times in the year they have had it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you're thinking of a 996tt then get the X50. Neither engine responds quite like a n/a so may as well have the max turbo shove if after a turbo. Give them a few more revs and the X50 puts a lot of distance between itself and a standard one. I also believe the X50 is even more suited to tuning than the standard if this is of interest.
Finally, there has been speculation on this forum that X50 will be more in demand as time goes by, so may have better residuals, although this is a matter of speculation and often disputed by the standard 996tt boys. But then, they would say that wouldn't they ?
X50. May as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb........

I have just put a deposit down on the X50 car.
The porsche warranty was renewed in november, do you think I still need to have it inspected? it has full porsche sevice history from the supplying dearler (wilmslow)
Can anyone tell me how often the spark plugs need to be changed?

Definitely get the car checked over. Especially the radiators (stone chips).
Spark plugs are scheduled to be changed every 4 years or 48k miles, whichever is sooner.
I always recommend if people are going to really drive them, that they look at uprating the plastic gearshift linkage to the stronger alloy unit (details in my car profile aug/sept 2004).

A lot of distance between the two!
- I beg to differ. Up to 95mph there is nothing/zilch in it. After that a fraction pull away, Top speed is a bit higher but hardly a hairs breath between the two at the finish. As shown at bruntingthorpe Vmax
Top speed 996tt x50 was 183
Top speed standard 996tt was 178
