Thinking of buying a v8,is the gulf in running costs that large between a v8 and a reg v6,ie the v6 being a bog standard capri engine, box etc against the v8 which is a modded engine with what i know has cam weaknesses and the sd1 gearbox is not the strongest in the world plus the probable need for "tvr" service to keep up it,s value.

V8S would be about 50% more expensive to run than a V6 model, if my experience with the S2 and V8S are anything to go by. The SD1 box is actually one of the strongest parts of the transmission and shouldn't cause any problem (unless you're planning to break the 300 bhp barrier ). It's the only part of my transmission which is still more or less standard!

Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Just bought a V8S - and can say beyond any shadow of a doubt - its the cheapest car I have ever run - saved a fortune in socialising, eating out, theatre tickets, football tickets, drugs, booze, hookers and even groceries. Just can't be bothered with that any more always have some polishing or driving to do - the grin factor on a V8S is BIG - if you can stretch to one get one !

Ditto - And the best part is you don't feel compelled to race kevin away from the traffic lights because you know you gonna wipe the floor with him but it's fun occassionally and even better when you do it to a new boxster in your ten year old car
