Driving home tonight we found out that we have no rear lights. Both have gone.

Once home we checked and it's only the rear lights that don't work. Both rear indicators, brake, reversing and fog lights are fine.

Looking at the handbook there does not appear to be a fuse that does only the rear lights.

Any thoughts?

In the morning I'll check the bulbs and the wiring I can get too.

I've ordered a copy of the bible but it's yet to arrive so I don't know if it's got the answer.

Thanks.

Now to ponder why my forum search did not find the thread.

I had this problem, but it was the brake lights. Traced the problem to dirty contacts in the multipole connector in the passenger B pillar.
Take a look at this thread...."Electrical connectors" of 31st January 2003 on this forum.

Good luck

Yup!

Dirty connectors in the passanger B pillar were the cause. I disconnected and reconnected them and the lights work again.

Thanks to the pointer to the other thread.

What and where exactly is the 'B' piller?

My reversing light isn't working and this may solve my problem too (already checked/changed the bulb).

I had a faulty reverse light. The solution here was to change the "reverse light switch" located on the gearbox. Difficult thing was you need to lift the car and remove the exhausts to access the switch. :-/

Behind the A Pillar and in front of the C Pillar.

Actually, I think he means inside the boot above the passenger wheel arch, or behind the seatbelt mounting (velcro'd carpet section) where the loom comes through to the front of the car.

Good one Trefor - The vertical posts that hold up the sides / roof are lettered from front to back of vehicle, i.e. A-post is one that goes up side of windsceen and mounts front door hinges, B post goes up behind front doors, C post goes up behing back doors (if you have them). The connector I was referring to is inside the B post (passenger side), behind the removable panel, above the seat belt reel.
