The new Pininfarina-styled Maserati GranTurismo will make its worldwide debut at the Geneva motor show, and the company's offering teaser pictures and a snippet of information.

Described as "a high-performance GT", the two-door GranTurismo uses the company's 4.2 litre 405bhp V8 and a front/rear weight distribution of 49 per cent / 51 per cent.

It'll be fitted with a paddle-actuated automatic gearbox -- the same that just adopted for the Quattroporte -- and an adaptive control system that adjusts gear-shifting mode to the driving style and the driving conditions.

It's a full four-seater, it'll replace the Coupé and you can expect to be able to buy one in September.

Maserati made its first GT was in 1947 when the Trident Company unveiled the Pinin Farina-designed GT, the A6, at the Geneva show. 58 were built.

I expect depretiation won't be as bad as it is with the 4200, as the Marque is getting better known and the reputation is definately on an upward curve.

Obviously don't know enough to comment, but I only hope the running costs are not too high.

For me, I have the plan to change my car (2006 Golf GTI) in 2 years and take a step up to a 911, which will be reliable and (comparatively) cheap to run. Obviously the 911 has that reliability reputation as well...will be an interesting choice - assuming the Mazzer depreciates like history suggests.

I do have one concern tho - look at that GORGEOUS front end.....now imagine it with a dirty-great UK number plate.

Where does it go??? How fugly will it look??

GORGEOUS thumbup

I was underwhelmed when they earlier announced the new coupe would be based on an Alfa platform. As it's now clearly Quattroporte-based the world is in order again. I wonder what the weight of the car will be. The auto in the Quattroporte added around 200kg over the cambiocorsa...

Very nice indeed, always been a fan of the new Quattroporte and this continues the trend.

Agree about the depreciation being steep though, any car that competes with the 911 seems to suffer the same fate.

Lets hope it drives as good as it looks, bacause if it does it would get my money over the Audi R8.

I think the numberplate would have to a sticky one to avoid ruining the nose of the car, like an E-type?

Isn't this the car that is supposed to pick up sales from the throngs of dissapointed Alfa Romeo 8c fans (as all 500 are sold)....?

So that should help residuals.

Its a superb car, and Maserati's troubled past is being nicely re-written.

Personally, I think the brand is moving up so well, that they are becoming a really stylish alternative to the Ferrari brand, which has a like it or loath it following these days.

looks great...though too similar to the Audi A5 around the B & C pillars confused...the only problems with Maserati are higher than normal depreciation along with exorbitant parts and servicing prices, to a comparable 911
