I'm sure this has probably been asked before and I could maybe trawl through several hundred posts and websites to find the answer, but I'm hoping some of the PH collective can answer it for me swiftly!

With reagrds to the road pricing scheme (which I'm against, just to let you know) will this bring an end to fuel duty, or at least a massive reduction, or is it going to be 'as well as' fuel duty?

If it's the latter, Tony needs to really take a step back and rethink... that'd be REALLY taking the piss out of his electorate!

First they said it would be instead of fuel duty,
then they said that fuel duty would be reduced
Now they say it will be in addition to fuel duty....rolleyes

So, they've backpedalled and it's going to literally double (if not more) the cost of driving in the UK?

I wonder what the car manufacturers think about this scheme? After all, people won't want to buy as many vehicles if it's going to cost a huge amount more.

We already seem minded to seriously rebel against the government's plans here, and if the car manufacturers go along with this tracking business and start building 'black boxes' or equivalent gubbins into new cars, we should put the screws on them as well.

Nobody really needs to buy a new car immediately, and if sufficient people were to delay their purchase another year or two, and made the reason clear, the car makers would be up sh1t creek PDQ - and deservedly so. I really think the car makers should pay attention to this, remembering who their customers are, and not co-operate with the confounded government in this technology lark.

Best wishes all,
Dave.
