I am going with my little sister to look at a 2 litre one of these at the weekend. Now I quite like the styling but they seem a bit, well, gutless. Not entirely sure about the 2L but if they can only extract 165bhp from a 2.5 V6 then its not going to be great is it.
She is coming from a Ibiza diesel so I suppose its in the comparison.

Any horror stories or good bidding ploys on these I should know about? New models or special offers?

Cheers
David

There is/was a facelift model - so look for discounts on the old model.

From the reports i've read the 2.0 is the one to go for as a balance of performance & economy.

Pah... I think any 'Far east' car will be welcome in Jap chat. We're not that anal.

Don't worry....

I have just sold a 2.0 that I bought new two years ago, superb car with more than enough performance,,,(130mph), and not bad on fuel consumption either....

Also 5 year warranty (Transferable, providing service book up to date)...

Downside:- Very poor headroom for tall back seat passengers, otherwise highly recommended.......

A garage near me has 2 of the new shape coupes on the forecourt and I must say they look lovely, different back end with twin exhausts new front bumper and those slits with logo on the front wings very nice.

They do a turbo version I think or is it a 2.7Lt not sure

I drove one a few years back, it was before the current facelift but I imagine it's still pretty similar. They're certainly very nice cars for the money and very nice to drive. But the engines are hopeless which makes the car rather pointless as surely the point of a coupe is that its a performance car. As was said only the 2.7 does anything aproaching respectable but thats only if you compare it with much smaller engined cars. It does have the small coupe market nearly to itself now though as with the Celica gone there aren't really any other direct rivals around. I'd rather have a hot hatch myself though.

I had one, I loved it. mine was 1998 2.0 se

really really under rated car. Its a good "touring" car very comfortable fits lots in and gives you a reasonably sporty drive.

E-mail me if you want more info

check with with ph'er Trackside, he works for Hyundai & has a coupe.

I think there were some design falut issues with clutch/ flywheel on the 2.7 V6, not sure if this has been sorted on the current model.

Think it's an ok car, decent looks, interior etc, just needs more power.

If the 2.7 had another 20-30 horses would be a decent car IMO.

Thanks all (well for most of the replies!)
I'll see how we get on.

Of course she could choose something sensible like a 944S2 ;-)

I owned a 98 Coupe for a few years. It never let me down mechanically. I've driven the new model too - whilst it wont set pulses racing in terms of performance it is a decent looking car and very practicle for a coupe, apart from rear head room.

I would recommend you check the condition of the leather seats as these seems to wear pretty badly and the cruise-control failed on mine so check that works.
