Just got a canon 350d and its tiny!
Discussion
I got it as a backup for my 30d, must admit I was surprised how small and light it was.
It looks a bit lost with my 24-105 stuck on it.
The 30d is a lot nicer to use with normal sized hands.
Still it will be useful as a carry around camera as the 30d with the battery pack and a 100-400 is quite a hefty thing and its ideal for what I'm using it for.
If your looking at cameras mail order its something to consider.
I would imagine the 400d is the same.

It might seem like I don't like it, not at all, I'm chuffed to bits with it.
I absolutely agree the size and weight of it is a major selling point, believe me lugging around a 30d with a couple of heavy lenses etc all day is a lot of kit.
I do honestly think if your using it with the big L lenses, they weigh so much anyway the larger cameras are easier to hold, but thats not what its for.
If the grip was a little bigger and it took the same batteries as my other camera it would have been perfect for me, but its not far off.
Overall, I'd say if your using sensible lenses and you carry it around a lot, go for the 350D/400D, or as a back up camerea its perfect. If you use the larger L lenses mainly, especially something like the 100-400L with the push pull zoom the 30D upwards is probably going to be easier to use. This is my opinion based on the size of my hands though.
In fact I can see me using it a lot more than my 30d, which I will use only for motorsport pictures now.
