Alarm issues

I've done a search and nothing seems to mirror this one.
Drives ok. Stop. Park up. Get out and press the button. Lights flash and alls ok with the world....... for about 10 minutes and then the car starts to talk to me. Whistles a bit. And then whoops every 5 mins. Press the button and the alarm sounds for a while.

Any ideas whats wrong cause I cant leave the thing without locking it everywhere I go

Sounds like the battery back up siren trying to kick in.

I'm guessing it's one of two things.

1. There will be a relay in the alarm siren that is supposed to be held by the permanent 12volts...when the voltage disappears, the alarm thinks it's been ripped out, and drops on to the self contained battery inside the siren. Thus, said assassin of your vehicle, runs down the road with blaring siren in hand, to find the nearest dustbin, full of water.... I'm guessing the relay might be duff, or the 12 volt supply to it, is dropping off, loose connection etc.

2. And the more likely cause, the self contained battery in the siren, has had enough of you charging it for eight years, causing it to dry & send "shorts" back to the alarm box.

I went for the cheap option & cut the siren out.

Last year I had the bizarre (if anything that goes wrong with the cerb can truly be called "bizarre", but still) circumstance that whenever I unlocked the car the alarm would go off. If I re-locked it then it would stop (albeit re-alarmed). Didn't affect the starting of the car, though (when nominally un-alarmed).

Solution was to replace the siren unit (iirc), which was disconnected until it could be replaced. Of course, the back-up battery in the siren complained about being separated from the mothership for a couple of hours until it gave up hope...

Had a similar experience with my alarm sounder, I got that annoyed I cut it out.

Had alarm problem within 24 hrs of picking mine up, went off at 4am! Of course I didn't know what it sounded like, pressed the fob and saw the indicators flash in the garage and thought it wasn't me. Went to the garage at 9am and the alarm just kept going no matter how many de-activations, it even started ok! Had to give my neighbours a bottle of wine.

Disconnected all the wires from the alarm module, then replaced them slowly. Now I also have the siren disconnected! Is it a readily available part to renew?

I must admit that I was a bit perturbed when I disconnected the battery a week or so gao and the alarm was still going (quietly mind). Where is this backup battery located anyways? I'd say the noise from the backup siren is more like a whimper than a real siren - Nothing you'd hear from 20 foot away on anything but a very quiet sideroad

It's self contained in the siren housing.

Hmm. Mine was a bit louder than that, though noticably quieter than when all properly connected.

It was in the garage, though, but with the (detatched) garage closed we could still (just) hear it in the house. Took a while to give up, getting quieter as it did it. Fortunately I was able to "plan" this activity for a time when it wasn't going to upset anybody (i.e. not 4am! )

Maybe your back-up battery was in a worse state than mine?
